Trex® has announced an exciting update to its NexTrex Recycling Challenge, a nationwide initiative that encourages communities to recycle plastic bags and other soft plastic films. The refreshed program introduces a new format designed to make participation more fun, accessible, and rewarding.
More Chances to Win
Previously, participants had one annual opportunity to earn rewards. Under the updated program, quarterly drawings will now be held throughout the year. This means participating organizations can earn entries and have up to four chances annually to win prizes.
Each quarter, 25 participating organizations will be randomly selected to receive a $500 gift from Trex®. Organizations earn entries into the drawing for every 250 pounds of plastic film they collect.
Rewards for Participation
The program continues to reward groups for their recycling efforts:
- Organizations receive a $100 gift from the NexTrex Store when they collect their first 250 pounds of plastic film each year.
- Every 250 pounds collected earns an additional entry into the quarterly prize drawings.
- Participants track their progress by weighing, recording, and uploading photos of collections at my.trex.com.
- Collected plastic film must be delivered to participating retail drop-off locations for recycling.
Earn a Trex Bench for Your Community
In addition to quarterly prize drawings, the Recycling Challenge still includes one of its most popular incentives. Organizations that collect 1,000 pounds of plastic film within a 12-month period will receive a Trex® bench, made from recycled plastic materials. These benches are often installed at schools, parks, or community spaces as a visible reminder of the impact of recycling.
Building Recycling Awareness Nationwide
Trex® created the NexTrex Recycling Challenge to help educate communities about proper recycling practices for plastic bags and flexible plastic films, which cannot typically be placed in curbside recycling bins.
The program partners with K–12 schools, colleges and universities, civic groups, and houses of worship, supporting local recycling efforts while raising awareness about responsible waste management.
The updated Recycling Challenge launches in January, and new registrations will reopen at that time so organizations can prepare for the new program format.
